American singer-songwriter and producer, Lucy Dacus came to Union Hall in Edmonton on November 4th and every single queer person in the city showed up. I went alone and it was my first time seeing a show at Union and I was pleasantly surprised as I love a small, multi-tier venue where you feel like you can stand right above the artist and get some beautiful views. I knew I had many friends in the building but I really didn’t expect to run into most of them so easily – random shoulder taps and hugs. Loved it.
This was the first show of the second leg of Lucy’s Home Video tour – Home Video is her 3rd studio album that was released on June 25, 2021.
I am a new Dacus fan after randomly picking up boygenius’ first self-titled EP at my local record store earlier this year. I bought it because I recognized Bridgers and while I don’t really follow her career – she’s in an all-girl band? I was curious.
boygenius is an indie ‘supergroup’ including Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus. When I started talking about it on social media, so many friends started asking me if I was a Lucy fan, but I had never heard of her until then.
Fast-forward to today, there’s a good chance I have her EP, 2019, playing in my living room. Her voice is so fragile but firm – and something about that kind of confidence feels very calming.
Here are some pictures from her show, along with her incredible opener, Portland’s Haley Heynderickx:
They both sounded incredible, Lucy and her bassist Dominic Angelella were really vibing on stage and just made the show extra fun. But all you really need to know is I stopped to sob at a gas station on the way home.
Have a great week, Dollies. <3
