Goooooood morning cuties!
I’ve been following Canadian artist TALK since last summer when he came through Edmonton for K-Days. My friends invited me to see him and then I got booked and couldn’t attend! But a lot has changed for Talk since then; he released his first album titled Lord of The Flies & Birds & Bees in October 2023, he played a few shows opening for SHANIA TWAIN(!!!) on her Queen Of Me tour in that same month, he won Juno’s Breakthrough Artist of The Year award and was nominated for others.
Now he’s headlining his own tour for his album
and I was so stoked to finally catch his SOLD OUT performance at Midway last Saturday night.
Have any of you been to a sold out show at Midway before?? Holy hell was it hard to move around in there. I asked a few people where the stairs were to get down into the pit and they were all like “*shrug* idk”. But here’s a tip for you next time you’re at a sold out Midway show: the TIGHTEST crowds are always standing right in front of the stairs. Once you make your way through them, you will find the much less packed pit. You’re welcome.
Waiting for TALK to take the stage was actually such a great time. We had some Sabbath, Gun n Roses, ACDC, and when Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody came on just as all the lights went down…. oh my god. If you’ve ever wanted to see drunk people experience pure joy, that is the recipe.
Finally, they took the stage:
He joked that he’s gained notoriety, not yet for his music, but for his Crock Kick, and that a few nights before, he put his back out doing it but… that wouldn’t stop him. That lime green crock flew well past the pit and the crowd loved it.
He asked for some facts about Edmonton and the crowd offered up a few good ones: treaty 6 territory, donair capital (?? no.), and “WHYTE AVE NAKED ROLLERBLADER.” I’m pretty sure that dude wears shorts but anyway.
If you ever get the chance to see Talk live, you must go. He sounds absolutely incredible live and engages with the crowd so naturally. I left wishing we were besties.
Bye!
