Willow drops a new song, Symptom Of Life

Posted on March 22, 2024March 22, 2024 by DOLLHOUSE

Willow released a new song last Tuesday, March 12th. TUESDAY? Some people get to make up their own rules and that’s a welcomed change in my world, where every Friday feels like I’m being buried alive by new music (in the best way possible).

It’s called Symptom Of Life and it’s a far cry from her last studio album; the guitar-driven, pop rock <COPINGMECHANISM> which was released in October of 2022. It’s slow, jazzy, and ethereal; similar to her November 2023 single alone. She’s confirmed that there is a new album in the works but that alone was a one-off.

She told Rolling Stone that during the writing of <CM>, she was never sober in studio, but that for this new album, she has been sober for every single recording session.

Willow has always been a deeply introspective writer and artist. <CM> was young and angsty, while this new Willow goes so much deeper and has you questioning the meaning of life. And she wants us to sit with it.

She shared the lyrics before the release:

The editorial visuals for this single, shot by Salomé Gomis-Trezise are absolutely striking.

the music video

Willow shared a glimpse on Instagram saying, “this visual is for all the beautiful people who have ever gone into nature with their friends & been guided to a deeper understanding of like together by plant medicine 🌱🌞 I hope this song and visual can bring catharsis to anyone who experiences them 🙏🏾 “

While I don’t think the exaggerated laughter and swinging arms at the beginning bode well to the free-spirited message, the rest of it is pretty cute. What do you think?

Willow is an artist to keep an eye on

If you’ve been following me for a while, you know how I feel about Willow. Her voice is sublime and just when you think she’s done with a word or note, she takes it higher and further. She speaks a lot about being a student of music. Always humble in her practice and openly accepting any and all opportunities that come with being a nepo baby. Love that for her.

Bye!
